Intel announced on Tuesday that chairman Andy Bryant resigned as chairman of the company during a board meeting that day. At the same time, the board elected independent director Omar Ishrak to replace Bryant and to serve as chairman immediately.

Intel also announced the election of Alyssa Henry as independent director of the company. She is also the seventh new independent director elected by Intel's board since 2016. Ishrak is currently the CEO of Medtronic, the world's largest medical device company. He has held this position since June 2011, transforming Medtronic into the world's largest medical device company in less than a decade. Medtronic announced in September last year that Ishrak will step down as CEO on April 26.

Intel said Bryant will remain on the board until the end of the 2020 shareholders' meeting. Bryant informed Intel's board of directors in March 2019 that he had no plans to run for re-election at this year's meeting. He decided to leave the role now to facilitate an effective transition.
